Mikenda Farm 4H Club

Meeting minutes for January 10, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 3:36 p.m. on January 10, 2009 by President, KC Campbell. KC lead us in the American and 4-H pledges.  She sang the 1980s hit Wake me up girl before you go by Wham to get everyone excited about Share the Fun (see below).  The secretary called the roll and read the minutes from the last meeting. KC motioned for the minutes to be approved and Rachel seconded. Mikayla, gave the treasures report and as of December 31 we have $2,881.21.

Unfinished business:  Cracker Christmas Fundraiser.  Ms. Brenda discussed what was brought in from that fundraiser, expenses, and the balance made. She also told the club about the additional fundraiser by Ms. Liz, Ms Brenda, Patti and some of the members sell pictures with Santa at the last Devonwood Show.  From Santa picture profits at both Cracker Christmas and Devonwood Horse Show after subtracting money paid to Patti Parry for her services, and expenses by Ms. Nancy and Ms. Di the total came to $510. It was proposed to give $150 to each relay team(Friends of Mikenda and Mikenda Farm 4h Club) and for the $200 remaining to go to the general club fund. It was also discussed to give a $50 dollar check from the club funds to the Fort Christmas Historical Society as a donation. The balance of $10 will be kept in the money box for petty cash. KC motioned for a vote on the allocation of the donations as discussed by the club and Ashley seconded it. The club voted yes.

New Business: Relay Team fundraisers- Discussion of ideas included, horse treats sales at horse shows, car wash, and a Rock Band contest. These were just ideas and more details would be discussed at the next meeting and future meetings.

Ms. Brenda handed out packets of show information and 4h contests and events.  Share the fund and County Events was discussed in length along with the deadline and what it entails.  Part of the information on the packet distributed included dates for future meeting. The club went over the dates and approved them-they are also posted on the website. She also brought up an idea for activity days where we have club meeting that are not “official” meetings. The club seemed interested in having one more additional meeting a month that would be a more informative meeting with guest speakers and education.

Rachel reported on what was discussed at the last County Council meeting.  During that meeting, participants broke up into groups and brainstormed about how to increase participation in 4H.  The agents were looking for feedback on how to increase interest and participation by members. She also talked about Share the Fun. A page in the state yearbook costs $75 and must be turned in by May 1st.  Rachel handed out sheets of paper to write letters to kids that have parents in the military.  They will go into backpacks of school supplies for these kids.  Several of the members filled out the letters. They are to be turned in at the next County Council meeting.

Ms. Brenda discussed that our club is to be featured in the next county 4h newsletter and that we need to write an article about the club with pictures.  Also our club is going to be responsible for providing the food for the next county council meeting that is to be at the Christmas Community Center on February 5th.. She would like as many members to attend as possible since it will be in our area.  Our next meeting is February 3rd so we need to decide what food and drink we will bring.

The meeting was adjourned at 5pm by KC.
